About us / Betania

We are a community of over 200 hearts, minds and souls

At Betania, our staff and volunteers work together to bring about life-changing improvements through social work and day-to-day engagement. We are committed to building a place where everyone feels welcome, valued and supported, regardless of their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age or background. Together, we foster a culture of responsibility, kindness and learning in which there is no place for hatred or discrimination.

We are all Betania.

Begoña Arana, Human Engineer

Welcome to Betania, a project that began in 2009 as a dream, with hardly any resources or experience in business, when I started helping vulnerable groups in La Línea de la Concepción and became a ‘human civil engineer’.

I see social intervention as a profoundly human and strategic endeavour. Without superficial fixes or shortcuts. Every person has a unique story that deserves to be understood in all its complexity: their context, their life journey and all the factors that influence their reality. Every situation has a root cause from which to intervene in order to achieve structural changes that truly transform lives, break cycles of vulnerability and open up new opportunities.

Being a human pathways engineer means equipping people with tools, strengthening their capacities and creating the necessary conditions for each individual to regain their autonomy and dignity and move confidently towards their own future. It is a profound process that requires time, commitment and conscious intervention that leaves a real and lasting impact. This is what we believe in every day and what we work towards at Betania.
